Foiled!

Woke up early to go take a spin class at the gym. No dice! Road was blocked due to this:

Don't know if you can see it, but notice the power lines in the left and how upright they are? The 6th one down and further are not quite erect. Wonder if that has anything to do with the no power situation? Hmmmmm...

So no gym, and no killing an hour. It didn't look good anyway because the power was out along the whole street to the gym. I guess I could have found a detour around, but I didn't have garmin and I would have been late to the class anyway.

Mumford and Sons

I've been dying to go see Mumford and Sons ever since my brother and his girlfriend got to go in Portland. I was tempted to drive down to Kentucky or Tennessee, but decided against it. It's a good thing I waited because they are coming to Columbus in August and I just bought us tickets!!!

Yay! So excited.

Love/hate

There are very few things where I have a love/hate relationship. Sometimes I think that's how it is with the hubster :) but I know that is the case with golf.

I finally figured out what I was doing wrong with my swing and was hitting balls like crazy. Queue in two more visits to the golfing range and my confidence was shattered going into my golf outing yesterday. I went from optimistic golfer to never want to golf again in the span of a week.

Golf went well last night. I think it was the best I've played in terms of consistency. It's made me love it again and has really lit the fire for me to play a real round of golf and not just a scramble.

Of course now that I'm "better" I want to buy new clubs! But I think I should upgrade my snowboard before investing in new clubs. Though I do golf more times a year than I snowboard. It's hard to spend $300+ on an item I use at most three times a year. Besides I really like my board.

Peeved

I'm getting really peeved with all these travel search engines.  I've been trying to book a flight to Las Vegas for me and the hubster.  Every time I find a flight that works for us, when I try and book it, the price goes up.  First Southwest was having a sale that said it ended Monday.  Tickets were $250 on Friday, but come Sunday night, they went up by $150.  Hmmm, maybe Sunday night = Monday for them.

Then I was using Kayak yesterday.  Delta had a flight for $250 as well.  Click on it and am redirected to Delta.  Oh look, the flight you chose is no longer $250, but is now $600.  Wow, great, let me book that too.  I check again today.  Oh, look, $261.  Wrong, it's $350.  I know sites like Kayak, expedia, etc pull from databases or something, but it's a little annoying to not have the updated prices.  Travelocity used to do this and I stopped using them and switched to Expedia.  This sucks.

Plants!!

Finally got around to my plants this year. I've got tomato, basil, and cilantro this year. I'm also trying red leaf lettuce, spinach, and leaf lettuce, inspired by my salads.

Tomato

Cilantro

Basil x 2

Red leaf

Spinach

Leaf lettuce

Those last three aren't that exciting. I even bought fertilizer from Home Depot so maybe I'll get some better "crops" this year.

The Day Is Not Over Yet...

Today has been full of up and downs.  More downs than ups so far.  Where to start?

Well, today the hubster was set to leave for Phoenix for two weeks.  So we decided that we would go on a bike ride together.  We woke up, loaded the bikes, and headed to New Albany.  They have a nice set of trails for bikers and runners around a golf course.  It's safe and easy to ride/run.  The hubster likes it because it's an a pretty affluent area of Columbus and he lusts after the houses.  During our ride, we rode up next to a co-worker that I know who lives in a neighboring neighborhood.  I slow down next to him and say hello, then I try to be nice and reach down for my water bottle to offer his some water, and I totally eat shit on my bike.  I think it's the first time I've ever fallen off my bike since I learned how to ride.  Oh my god.  How embarrassing!  I didn't mind that I skinned both my knees and my right palm hurt, it was just eating shit in from of my friend.  Ugh!!!

Then after got home, I promptly dropped my phone into the dog's water dish!!  Strike two.  I quickly grabbed it out, dried it off, and stuck it in a bag of rice.  After lunch, we ran out to do some more errands.  Home Depot for potting soil, the bank to deposit some checks and the grocery store for prescriptions.  The hubster decides now is a good time to criticize my driving.  It was not well received since I'm having such a shitty day.

We get home and I start to iron some of his shirts that need to be packed.  Finish that and finish up packing the hubster.  He's all set.  I think he definitely overpacked, but he'll be at work for the weekdays and he needs clothes to change into and it's fricking hot in Phoenix, so he's got a lot of options.  Definitely more than a carry on.  I take my phone out of the rice and turn it on.  It turns on, phewww.  BUT the sound isn't working. *cry*  And these is rice in all the little holes.  I take about 20 minutes to pick out soggy rice from the headphones hole.  No dice =(

We leave for the airport and the hubster realizes that we are way too early and was looking at the boarding time, not the departure time.  We detour to Target.  I drop him off.  I almost cry.  I don't get it. I leave him all the time for work trips and I'm never sad.  I think since I'm the one left behind now, I get  a little sad.

Get back home, re-pot my tomato plant and basil plant and plant some red leaf lettuce, leaf lettuce, and spinach seeds in my new pots that I got at Home Depot on Saturday.  (Side note: "gardening" is not cheap - well gardening with no garden and only with pots is not cheap).  Finish that up and pack up the car for summer league game.

The turn out wasn't as great as the first game, but we still play 7 v 7 and I think everyone had a good time.  Start off a little rough and cannot catch or pick up a damn thing.  It is hot as fuck out.  The game ended and I head home to make some dinner.  I have a smaller portion of my awesome salad with some shrimp scampi and leftover pasta.  It was tasty.  I ended up burning the crap out of my arm from spattering oil.  That was not fun.  After dinner and loading up the dishwasher, I ran out to the grocery store.  I figure with the hubster gone, I should cook all the things he doesn't like to eat.  Also if I know I spent money on groceries, I'm more likely to eat at home than go out.

And now, time to take a shower and watch some TV.  With how my luck is going today, I might fall in the shower and hit my head on something.

I might actually get good at this

Golf that is. We had the step son tonight and since school is out, we get to keep him a little later. So after dinner, we went to the driving range. After the first couple hits, I thought it was going to be another sucky day at the range with a 30% hitting percentage.

Well something must have clicked because I was on fire! I was hitting almost every ball in the air with pretty decent distance. It was like a little light bulb just turned on. And do you know what that little light bulb turned on? Keep your eye on the ball! That's it. I always knew that's what I was supposed to do because my golf instructor told me too. I kept my head down and my eye on the ball and I seriously hit every ball!

I can't wait until my next round of golf and see if I can repeat the great hitting.

Best salad ever

I made the best salad ever tonight. Absolutely amazing!!

It had the following:

Romaine lettuce
Red leaf lettuce
Baby spinach
Pine nuts
Artichoke hearts
Tomato
Feta cheese
Red onion
Avocado
Croutons

And a garlicky dressing.

It was a huge salad had with a small side a spaghetti. It's so good that I made another one for my lunch tomorrow.

A week of bad decisions

Not surprisingly after a week of bad eating decisions (ie eating out for a week straight and ending it with el vaquero, beers, and margaritas), I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm the heaviest I've been in 2 years :(

I started to slip last august where I was holding steady at one weight and then picked up a few pounds that I just couldn't (or didn't want to) work off. Now I'm up again. *sigh*

Now back to eating in at home and not drinking. And probably more exercising. I haven't gone a real run (3+ miles) since the half marathon almost two months ago. Time to get back on the wagon.

Fear

I had a terrifying moment on the plane today. I thought I got onto the wrong plane!

I was on one of the smaller commuter planes and at Denver all the smaller jets have this long hallway that several gates share. There happened to be a gate change for me. My ticket said B65, but was now at B67. B65 was going to Philly.

So I got on my plane and watched as a young Amish couple or siblings got off the plane at 65 and get into my plane. I kinda chuckled. Karma is a bitch.

So we're flying and I realize we were a half hour from our scheduled landing time and there had been no drink service. Hmmm peculiar?

Then drink service started. Why so late? Usually we get the announcement that we ate beginning our descent and that the flight crew will be coming by to pick up trash. Well if I were flying to Philly then we'd be ok on time. I really thought I was on the wrong plane.

I started to run through the situation about how to get home from Philly, but that was all for nothing because we started descending with no announcement. Sheesh, crisis averted.

Really?

I'm flipping through channels in the hotel room on my last night in Colorado.  So I land on this show called On the Wire.  It's a live show of some dude walking across Niagra Falls on a wire.  Sounds exciting right?

NO!

He's attached to a guide attached to the wire.  So if he falls, he's not going to die.  Also, his balancing pole is attached to him AND the wire is like 3 inches in diameter.  Not impressed!

He's also wearing special shoes.

I mean he's got time and concentration to have the broadcasters to be patched in and talk to them.

Definitely not impressed.

The Avengers

I finally saw The Avengers tonight.  Yes, while on travel.  I'm soooo bored!  I will be so happy when I get to go home on Saturday.

Anyway, the movie was pretty good.  It killed a few hours for me; however, I was a little disappointed in the change in product placement.  Audi >> Acura imo.

I was also a little disappointed in the new Batman trailer.  Everyone said it was amazing, but it was meh.  It was a little unclear what role Joseph Gorden Levitt plays though.

On a brighter note, Expendables 2 will be amazing.  Just look at the cast.

CHUCK NORRIS!
VAN DAM (even though he is a bad guy)
The guy who plays Thor which I can't really get behind because he doesn't really fit into the old school action hero theme that they currently have going.

It's going to be AWESOME!

Poor Heidi

With the hubster's graduation this week, I completely forgot to write about Heidi's (my car) traumatizing experience. She was broken into Thursday morning and all the jerk took was the GPS. My flipping outdated as hell GPS. It couldn't have been worth more than $50. So now my car is at the dealership waiting to be looked at.

I'm not upset that I have to pay my $500 deductible to fix my car. It's more about the time and inconvenience of not having my car. It's a good thing I'm out of town this week and don't need to get another rental car. I don't foresee it being done by the time I get back, but hopefully by then I hope the dealership can get me a loaner car.

Blargh!

Eating alone

Traveling alone on business means eating alone. It usually doesn't bother me. I get a small table and bring my phone or iPad and just browse the Internet or read while waiting/eating. This week I'm in Colorado Springs for a work conference.

I guess it's a trade off. Per diem for dining alone. Right now I'm at MacKenzie's Chop House enjoying an overly priced martini (which is delicious)

And about to order a hopefully yummy prime rib and spinach salad.

I'm hungry. I hope my waiter comes back soon.

Congratulations Hubster

Congratulations hubster, class of 2012!!

I'm so proud of you pookie and I love you so much I sat in 90 + degree heat to watch you graduate!

I love

Red Lobster's cheddar bay biscuits! We went to dinner just for them.

*drool*

Do you see the hubster's grubby hand reaching for my biscuits?

It's official

The hubster is graduating this Sunday from The Ohio State University. Yes, the "The" is very important. I'm so proud of him. Now to plan the graduation party!

Waiting is tough

Currently the hubster and I are waiting for his last grade to post. It's only been two days, but it's been a killer two days. He thinks he did well so why am I so nervous?!?

Graduation party this Sunday. Yay!!!!!

Abandoned

That's what I did to this blog and to my entire life outside of lacrosse.  That's just how it gets.  All I can think of is lacrosse.  Don't worry little blog, I'm back and you can count on more inane blog posts!

I have bronchitis

After three straight weeks of being sick, I finally took my ass to the doctor's.  I have bronchitis.  Yay, at least it's not TB!!  I'm so tired of coughing.  I was getting better for half a second last week and then the cold hit on Friday and wiped me out.  That's when round 2 of coughing started.  Monday was the worst.  I coughed so much on Monday that my left ribs feel broken.  I've been sleeping on and off all day today since I took the day off and left early yesterday.  Man, that's three sick days for this illness.

I'm sick

And the hubster just compared me to a high functioning retard. He's an insensitive bastard.

So sick of coughing

I thought I had finally gotten over my cold, but when the weather dipped down to 60 on Friday, my cough came back with a vengeance. I've been coughing constantly for the past three days and I'm so tired of it. It's like my body decided that it wasn't done being sick. I just want to stop coughing and to stop having to blow my nose and spit out phlegm. Ugh!

Happy doggy

Egg roll after her walk tonight. Her panting makes her look like a happy dog. So cute!
