The hubster:
- He's the reason I'm in Ohio. We met playing an MMORPG online while I was in college in 2003. I finished undergrad, worked for a year, finished grad school, and finally moved out to Columbus to be with my him. I think if I had decided to pursue another graduate degree we may have had some issues. He is by far the most patient person I know, and you would have to be to marry me. He is everything I'm not - patient, sympathetic, selfless. We were married on Maui in 2008 (I tried to make a webpage about it when I was in wedding mode, but it never got done. If you're interested, you can find it here). We've been married for a little over two years, and it's been ... I won't say perfect because it hasn't. It's been real, and as cliche as it sounds, it's exactly what it is and I couldn't ask for anything else. It hasn't been all rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns, but it's our life and I'm ok with it.
My Dogs:
- Egg Roll is me and the hubster's first dog together. The story of how Egg Roll adopted us. That's right, she chose us! We took a trip down to the Franklin County Animal Shelter to peruse the doggies. Well, that's not entirely true. Me being who I am, zipped on over to the dog shelter's website where they post pictures of all the dogs they have available to adopt. It's not always up to date, but still awesome. So I compiled a list of 10 dogs I wanted to meet and this little devil was one of them - she was named Jezebel on the site (very fitting as it turns out). Anyway, we went down to the shelter and many of the dogs on my list had already been adopted (bad for us, but yay for them). We first picked out a basset hound to do a meet and greet with (my previous dog was a basset named Jomer - I miss that stinky fella). The basset was well a basset. They are a "you get what you see" kinda dog. Next up was Egg Roll/Jezebel. We got to the play area and she's doing her thing and then out of nowhere she jumps into the hubster's lap and does her soon to be trademarked snuggle maneuver. Sold! She's a stinky little attention whore who is a street dog at heart. Her survival instincts are amazing. We think she could take down a bear if she had too. We love her and we think she loves us, at least until we no longer are useful to her.
- Red is the second dog we adopted. We got Red right after we moved into our condo. I think that was the reason we bought our condo. I wanted another dog and needed more space. We took the Eggster with us to the shelter so she could play with her potential new brother or sister. We left Eggers in the car while we took a look around. This time the hubster wanted a bigger dog since he has a love for larger dogs. It took us a long time to find Red, but when we did, it hardly took us any time at all to decide she was the one. Her name was Bretta at the shelter. She was sitting up against the cage door looking all pretty and inviting (we found out shortly that she wasn't sitting against the door to lure in potential new owners, but because she is incapable of sitting upright for an extended amount of time without leaning on something. I think it has something to do with her pawbeards - she has really long hair on the bottom of feet between the pads of her feet). We got her out of the cage so her and Egg could sniff each other's butts and whatnot, but Red/Bretta was not having any of it. She was more concerned about the play room than Egg Roll and Egg Roll couldn't have cared less. So we adopted Red for two reasons: one, because she looked so friendly leaning up against the cage, and two, she has the SOFTEST fur ever - it's like her soft puppy fuzz never went away. While Egg Roll only loves us while we are useful to her, I think Red will love us forever.
After having them both for 3+ years, it's amazing how much Egg Roll acts like me and Red like the hubster. Best dogs ever and I can't wait to get more, but I don't think the hubster's on board with that quite yet.
