I don't wear a lot of jewelry - scratch that. I don't change my jewelry a lot. I wear the same earrings, rings, necklace, and watch every day. Sometimes I add a necklace. I have two others I wear. I love them and it took a long time to find them and now they are both broken :(
I broke my long strand necklace on the plane to Stony Brook. It got caught on the seat arm and snapped at the clasp. And I just found out this morning my other necklace broke. Grrrr!
I'm mad! Nothing I can do about it. I don't think the first is fixable and maybe the second is salvageable. So mad!

It's Getting Hot in Here
So I went to National Tournament in Stony Brook, NY over the holiday weekend. It was a really fun time. I got to meet new officials and some pretty big names in women's lacrosse. I was observed by an international official with a long list of accolades. I got some great feedback and I should be getting an email with more any day now.
The most exciting part of the weekend happened off the field. I almost collapsed from heat exhaustion! Yes, it was kinda scary. I had worked 4 games on Saturday in mid to high 80 degree weather with brutal humidity. I made it through the day because I had hour breaks between each game. I thought I was hydrating enough and drinking a bottle of water per game and sipping during my breaks. My Sunday schedule was not so nice. I had two back to back games, a one hour break, and then two more back to back games. I was also unfortunate enough to have the sun come out and rain clouds disappear at the start of my first game.
The first game went fine which was good because I was being observed during that game. The second one was ok, but what killed me was that it went into triple OT. I was done by the start of the third over time period. So I essentially ran for 2.5 hours straight. A bit much for me.
Because as soon as I signed the paper and ran off the field, I realized I only had 25 minutes before my next game. I was toast. I walked over the officials tent and saw my friend. I called out her name and by the time she reached me (maybe 15 ft) I was bent over hysterically sobbing. I do not get emotional, so this was kinda scary. I dropped to my knees and was just crying and trying to tell her that I don't know how I was going to do my games. I was just feeling so overwhelmed and stressed and helpless. Feelings that I don't normally feel. They got me into a chair, got some water and ice for me. I just sat there crying and shaking for 10 minutes. Needless to say they took me off my games and got replacements.
The trainer checked me out. I ate a few granola bars, drank two bottles of water, and took some electrolyte pills. The shaking and crying finally stopped, but then I got a little light headed. I just sat in the same chair for the rest of the day. I hate feeling so helpless, but I needed to take care of myself and my friends were great. They definitely kept me from pushing myself too hard. I made it through the day and a very memorable first National Tournament.

I really need to go shopping
I always find myself in a clothing slump when the weather changes. It's like I forget all the cute outfits I wore in the previous summer or winter. I'm feeling like that now. I look at my closet and think what the hell can I wear to work or whatever I'm planning to do.
So I feel like I need to go shopping for a new work and every day wardrobe. Maybe I'll do that when I get back from National Tournament. I won't have any games until next Friday. I think I've earned enough money this season to spend some of it on clothes.

Off to Stony Brook
I'm headed to Stony Brook, NY to attend National Tournament for the first time. It's going to be an exhausting weekend and I'm so glad that I'm finally getting over this cold. Minimal coughing and usage of cough drops during my game last night. That is a good sign.
I'm all packed and ready to go. Waiting on the hubster to get up so we can grab some brunch before my flight takes off.

Michigan
I'm leaving for Michigan at 5:30 pm tonight for a lacrosse tournament. I'm still sick, but getting over it. My cough feels a lot better today and I feel a lot better today. I was wiped out after my one game last night, so I'm not sure how well I'll be doing after 4 games on Saturday. Hmmmm.... we'll see.
I did laundry last night and that's about it. I still need to pack and make a list of what I need to bring. If I don't make a list, I'll forget too much. I'm going to be cutting it close in meeting my car pool peeps.

Seeing Red
I had my second play off game of the season last night and it was a nail biter. Final score was 9-8 and the team that was down had last possession of the ball with 30 seconds left and they could have tied it up. Last night was also the first time I have ever felt the urge to red card a girl. It wouldn't have mattered because her team ended up losing, but I have never been so mad at a girl in my officiating career.
So one of the white team's star player is an athletic girl with a killer shot, number 24. Blue causes a turnover in white's offensive end, it's coming out towards me. Something catches my eye because I see one blue player making a weird run, not towards the ball like other or upfield. No, she is running directly towards white 24. I know I should have been following the ball as it was coming towards me, but this blue player caught my eye. Blue runs up to White and just cross checks/pushes her for no reason. The ball was nowhere near where they were. I think Blue tried to make it look like she was blocking her out (of what? I don't know) It was such a blatant flagrant foul. I was so mad that I said yellow card for misconduct. I should have red carded her. OMG, so mad. It would have been my first red card for something like that. I've done other red cards for flagrant fouls, but those were automatic because it stopped sure goals and were not intentional like this one.
I should have carded her. That one will stick with me for a while.

I miss my taste buds
That's the sucky thing about being sick. You can't taste anything. Well to be accurate, you can't smell anything. I was listening to NPR one day and there was a piece on how what most people think is taste is really smell when it comes to eating food. Something about how your taste buds taste sour and sweet and not actual flavor which is more related to sense of smell. So I miss smelling.
I made what I think was a tasty sandwich for dinner tonight, but I could hardly taste anything. It was a chicken breast from a Costco rotisserie chicken, avocado, red onion, lettuce, mayo, and pesto on a bun. It sounds amazing, but all I could taste was maybe a little bit of the red onion. It looked really good. Maybe I'll make another one when I get better and see if my eyes didn't lie to me.

Finished
Finally! We are finished installing the new hard wood floors. We finished the bedroom over the weekend. We powered it through it even though we were both sick. I bet staying up until 1 am for three days straight didn't help either of our healths. Even though the floors are done, there is still a lot of work to be done. We still need to touch up the paint, paint the baseboard, remove and sand down the glue on the baseboard and re-install the baseboard. I'm hoping that it'll be all done before my parents come to visit in July. I am sure once lacrosse season is over, I'll have plenty of time.
Death Warmed Over
That's me for the past four to five days. I picked up whatever the hubster had last week. It started out as a sore throat on Friday, the same on Saturday, and Sunday it exploded into full on sickness. Sore throat, stuffy nose, cough, chills, the works. I took Monday and Tuesday off work and I finally think I hit the turning point last night. I woke up sweating in the middle of the night, but felt a little better this morning.
I'll definitely be going into work tomorrow. I'm going a little crazy staying home for essentially four days in a row. One can only watch so much Law and Order even for an avid Law and Order fan like myself.

Big News This Week
But I can't say what it is. (No, I am NOT pregnant) It's very good news for the hubster and I am so proud of him. We're both very excited.
It let me go shopping for him and we spent a bit of money on him. I even spent time at work to calculate the best possible scenarios to maximize a sale. Haha, I'm such a cheap Asian.

Sick!
The hubster has been sick for over two weeks now. I was hoping to avoid getting sick. I even took a day off work when I was getting a scratchy throat and a little bit of a cough, but NOPE. I am full on sick right now. I have the worst sore throat ever. My nose is partially stuffed up and probably progressing on to fully stuffed up. Only good thing is that there is no cough... yet. Le sigh.

Massage time
Finally cashing in on the massage gift certificate that the hubster got me for Valentine's Day. My shoulder was killing me prior to the race and I think finishing the race was a good of reason as any to get one. Yay!
Bananas!
I'm sitting at my desk eating a banana while Egg Roll is literally going bananas trying to get my attention. She loves bananas, but she really loves all food. I can hear her little paws scraping against the floor as she alternates from pawing at my leg to running around to the other side to jump into the hubster's chair. Back and forth, back and forth. I think she's caught on that I'm ignoring her. Watch her go pee in the bedroom or something, just to let me know that I will never be the boss of her and that I should go get her a banana to appease the great Egg Roll.

Elaine's Guide on How to Run a Half Marathon
- Sign up for a half marathon (It would be best if you could find one that occurs during one of the busiest time of year for you to ensure proper training)
- Get family member to sign up to
- Finish up any physical therapy and then proceed to stop doing the strength exercises they give you
- Completely overbook your week with lacrosse games so that it leaves you with no time to train and also not adequate rest for your legs for long runs
- Have family back out of race due to injury
- Waffle back and forth about whether you should run the race, while forever lamenting you don't want to hurt yourself like last time
- Make the decision not to race because you didn't have enough time to train
- Get a crap load of shit from co-workers and re-change your mind to run the race
- Coerce co-worker to run race with you at the last minute
- Wake up morning of the race and eat one banana and one bowl of Frosted Flake cereal
- Pee 4 times within 45 minutes of the start time
- Stretch and leave lucky, purposely bought to be left behind sweater on a random speaker
- Run race
- Finish race
See how there was absolutely no training required to run a half marathon. I do admit though in the two months prior to the race, I ran 6 times - the longest being 7.5 miles and the shortest being 4.8 miles. All it really takes is a great running partner to keep you motivated during the race and your mind off how shitty you feel while running. It doesn't hurt if your race partner is exceptionally fast and doesn't mind getting water for you at all stations so that you don't have to deal with the crowd and can maintain a steady pace. I would not have finished if it were not for my co-worker. He kicks ass.
Oh shit, there are two of them
My friend on FB posted this picture. Look familiar? It looks exactly my she devil of a dog, Egg Roll.
It's her twin! I definitely think they should have their own breed or something. The similarities are amazing for a mutt. I would steal my friends dog if I could.
Things I learned today
1. Running sucks
2. Gu gel things are disgusting
3. Yelling "god, you're hot" through my window is not attractive
4. I will never run a half marathon alone
5. I have great friends
6. I am definitely getting old

Cute and scary
On the way to work today, I got stuck behind a school bus. As the bus was pulling away from the stop, I saw a dog running alongside the bus for a bit. Just following it along at a full sprint. After a while it stopped chasing the bus and ran home. It was so cute to see this dog running alongside the bus seeing his kid off to school. The scary part was that it was running in the road where oncoming traffic was coming. So glad he didn't get hurt. I watched in my rear view mirror as the dog sat in its front yard and watched the bus drive away. Aww, I love dogs.
