After my first week at work, I quickly realized I am poorly equipped to work in a non-air conditioned building in San Diego with a stricter dress code than my previous place of employment. I can't really get away with jeans this early into the new job. I think I bordered on too casual on a few days with some skirts and dresses, but I took cues from other females in the office. There was a broad spectrum and I think I erred on the more conservative side, but then again, some of these women were not engineering professionals which as much as I hate it, has different standards than office support staff. Is that terrible of me to voice that?
Anyway, I knew right away that I needed more work slacks and a black all purpose blazer. I have plenty of nice tops, but they are sleeveless. The blazer offers a perfect solution. I went to Fashion Valley with Kristina and ended up with a few items.
Nadri bracelet from Nordstrom anniversary sale - Love it
Cigarette pants from Loft - Also love
Black blazer from Loft - wearing today. Exactly what I was looking for and 50% off
New bras from Victoria's Secret - the ones I was wearing for every day wear were looking a little ratty. Time to replace
I forgot how large Fashion Valley was and how upscale it has gotten. With a lapse in paychecks, I need to watch my spending a little more and with my upcoming trip to Europe. I think I'm done spending for this billing period. I'm pleased with what I got and I think it will make dressing for work that much easier.
It sucks being a women when the dress code is business casual. It's harder to define in my opinion. I know few women who would be satisfied with wearing polos and khakis to work.
