Leaving on a jet plane

First things first.  Since I decided to relocate due to a new job opportunity, it put a little kink in the plans for our trip to Europe since the flights were originally out of Columbus.  First thing, I did was hope onto Kayak and find hopefully cheap flights to Columbus from San Diego.  Luckily, Southwest was running a sale and Delta was matching fairs.  Done and done.

So my trip started out at 4:30 am on Wednesday to catch my flight to Columbus.  Trip was uneventful and I made it in time to get a hair cut from my favorite stylist who I will miss immensely (It's true.  She's the first person I've actually repeatedly gone to.  I usually bounce around never seeing the same person twice.  She's been cutting my hair for 2.5 years.  How will I find a replacement?  Or maybe I'll just cut my hair whenever I come back to Columbus, probably not).  After the hair cut, the hubster and I grabbed a quick dinner with local friends who I also miss immensely.  Our time was short, but sweet.

Into bed early and the hubster and I were up at 6 am to catch our flight to Atlanta and on to Brussels!  Friends from dinner last night were so nice to drive us at the airport so we didn't have to pay for parking.  Yay for friends!  One of the best parts of the trip was that we were flying FIRST class!  That's right, bitches, we be BALLERS or maybe BANGERZ (if we were Miley Cyrus or maybe I'm totally misusing the term).  Anyway, first class shenanigans began early in the AM.

The hubster drinking his ginger ale out of a GLASS.  Look at that pinky action going.

I opted for coffee.

No meal service for the short hour flight, but we did get snacks.  Yummy cookies from the snack basket.  Grabbed a banana when it was passed around a second time.  Once we landed, we had a SEVEN hour layover!  SEVEN! 7! SEVEN!  How would we kill the time?  In the Delta Sky Club, of course.  One of the perks of flying first class.  So we stopped on over, checked in, and got comfortable.

Me, being me.  Am I really asleep?

SNACKZ!

I quickly "woke up" and took advantage of the free food and drinks.  Bagel, cream cheese, yogurt, granola and more coffee.  They had cinnamon rolls for the hubster.  I also stocked up on Nutella and peanut butter single serving packs for later.  We hung out here for about two hours before heading out and looking for a lunch option.  I had read rave reviews over one of the fancy sit down restaurants in the terminal, but the menu was not looking that great for the hubster.  We ended up getting Baja Fresh.  Once we finished lunch, we checked into a different Sky Club (there are 5-6 in Atlanta alone).  The second one was not as nice, so we enjoyed some lunch snacks (hummus, carrots, pita chips, pub mix, etc) and then left to head back to the original Sky Club.  In the mean time, it got packed and we found our own corner to occupy for a few more hours.

Finally, it was time to leave and we headed to our gate where we boarded.  We found our LIE-FLAT seats and settled in.

Controls for the seats. Complicated.

Complimentary champagne for me, OJ for the hubster

Look at that stupid grin

Oh look, what's this?  Complimentary toiletry kit

Inside (socks, eye mask (essential), toothbrush, toothepaste, shoe polish, shoe horn, ear plugs (also essential) tissues, pen)

Once settled in, the plane took off and we made our selections for dinner.  While we waited, we played around with the in flight entertainment.  The hubster especially enjoyed the movie offerings.  I was more concerned with the TV options since I planned on sleeping for the majority of the 8 hour flight.  The hubster can't sleep on planes.  I selected Downton Abbey to watch during dinner.

Ginger ale (in a glass) and warm nuts

Tomato soup and chilled grilled shrimp

I had the cod and the hubster had the short ribs

Of course, dessert! The hubster had ice cream sundae and I had some pastries.

Dinner wasn't excellent, but it was tasty and probably better than what was served in coach.  Once the trays were collected, I finished off the current episode and hit the sheets.

Me, ZZZZzzzzz

The hubster, trying to ZZZzzzz

The lie-flat seatings were quite comfortable.  You really can't tell you are on a plane.  Definitely spoiled us for future international travel.  The only issue I had was that I usually sleep with a pillow under my knee and there wasn't one available.  Will need to remember for next time.  The pillows were comfortable.  The duvet was very warm, almost too warm.  Ended up stripping down to the tank top I was in.  The eye mask and ear plugs were essential for sleeping.  Planes are really loud which I never really quite noticed before.

The hubster was kind enough to wake me up for the pre-arrival meal.  Thanks, pookie.!

Vanilla french toast, chicken sausage, and eggs

It was pretty tasty and I was hungry.  Great way to wake up and prepare for our big day ahead of us.  We landed and were first off the plane.  After a quick stop to the toilet which took a while to figure out (who knew?), we got in line at border control and entered Brussels!

Next up, adventures in Brussels which include getting to the hotel, almost killing the hubster, waffles, naked peeing boys!
