Tagg, the pet tracker, how I loathe thee?
We thought everything was fine and dandy once we got the alert about the tracker being out of the home zone a few weeks ago. We were happy that it worked and had plans to keep the damn thing. However, on this trip to PA, we didn't get a single notice the entire time we were gone.
When we arrived at my aunts, we reset the Tagg home zone to my aunt's house. No alerts, but then again, Red never left the house. On the return trip home, again, no alerts. We called the technical support to find out what the heck was going on. The customer support person had no idea what she was talking about. She sounded like a 15 year old idiot. Apparently, they have syncing issues. Not a dealbreaker, so I asked if we'd still be able to track the Tagg if it's not synced. She did not know the answer, but her little script made it sound like you couldn't. Well, how often does the Tagg get out of sync? How would I know? No answers.
WTF. We'd have to wait to get home to power cycle the docking station and tracker. The hubster and I discussed it on the rest of the trip home. We were pretty close to the end of the 30 day trial period. I looked up more reviews of the product and found that several other people experienced the same sync issues as us and said that the power cycle didn't always work and that troubleshooting with tech support was painful. We decided that as much as we wanted to like the product, it just wasn't ready and in a state that we wanted it to be. So I called Tagg back and requested a return.
It does make me a little sad that we run a greater risk of not retrieving Red if she were to run away, but having this costly item would not have helped, not with all the bugs it has. But what does give me some kind of relief is that Red did amazingly well at my aunt's house. She didn't try to run away, she only escaped the kitchen once at the end of the trip. She didn't need personal potty breaks like previous visits and she went out in the yard without supervisions. She did so well with the baby too. She calmed down within 5 minutes of new visitors and didn't jump up on people. I'm so proud of her.
So if Tagg ever gets their act together, we'll definitely consider trying it again. We really wanted this product to work, so this potentially could be the final update, but hopefully not.
