Recognizable states

My brother and his girlfriend got us scarves and these mugs for Christmas.

I love mugs and these are great, but it reminds me of a discussion I had while I was in Vail. All the Ohio girls were adamant that the shape of the state of Ohio is highly recognizable. Me being from California said that I would not recognize it. They kept saying that it's heart shaped which to their credit it is, but it's not something you notice when you glance at a map.

Even though I now live in this state and have been a residence of it for 5 years, I still don't immediately recognize it.  Does that make me a bad Ohioan?

So if someone other than my brother and his gf has sent this, I think I would have a hard time recognizing the state.  The green heart does help, but I don't think I would have identified this as Oregon on the first try.  In my mind recognizable states are California (I may be biased like the Ohio girls), Florida, Texas, New York, and .Oklahoma.  I wanted to put more East Coast states in there, but I definitely think that is because I grew up in PA and with all that history in the state, the 13 colonies stuff was pretty much crammed down our throats.

Anyway, I forgot the point of this post.  Ohio is not a recognizable state shape...
