No, this won't be about conjunctions, but it will be about grammar, specifically commas. I don't usually proofread what I post, but I should. Sometimes, I go back and read some of my posts and it's just embarrassing to see all the grammatical mistakes made. Usually, it's a missing comma or an iphone "autocorrect" mistake.
After making several presentations, reading a few white papers, and writing some for work, I began to think that I overuse commas. The biggest case of comma disagreement between work writing and my writing is the use of commas in a list. For example, "I went to the grocery store to buy apples, bananas, milk, and cereal." I've noticed that the last comma after milk is almost never there. (Is that bad grammar - almost never?) Anyway, I was taught that a comma should be there, but I begin to question myself. I always put a comma before "and" whenever and is used to connect to two complete sentences that could stand on their own without the "and". I know that one is right, but I don't see it used in work papers. Then again, it is engineering. I don't think grammar is at the top of the priority list, but I still think bad grammar is unprofessional.
Anyway, the bottom line is I think I use too many commas, but when I re-read my posts, all I want to do is add in more commas.
