Update: Shopping Ban

Last post I made on not spending money was an utter fail since we blew a good chunk at Dick's.  So what it's only been three weeks?  How have we done so far?

I posed the same question to the hubster and he had a very different response than my own.  He thought we were doing great.  We've stuck to the eating out budget of $40 for the past three weeks and have only spent money on groceries and groceries.  I, on the other hand, thought although a marked improvement over the last few months, we still didn't stick closely enough to what we outlined out.  For example, we spent $$$ on the hotel room for our anniversary.  The hubster justified it by saying that we booked it before the ban.   Wrong!  Then he said well it's our anniversary, it doesn't count.  Wrong again, buster!  That's exactly the same kind of thinking that got us into this mess the first time.  I also pointed out to him that I have spent close to $70 on new workout clothes!  He counters that we got $120 worth of merchandise for $50 through rewards, coupons, and discounts.

I can see where he is coming from, but I like to think I'm more strict (read: anal) about this kind of stuff.  I'm very hard on myself and I set expectations high, almost unrealistic.  We have another week left in this month's billing cycle and we're just under the goal, but my money forecasting says we'll come in just under our second goal (i.e. an actual realistic number - which is still way better off than we were, but not as good as we can be).

To lessen the disappointment, the hubster said if we knocked off the hotel room, we'd be right on goal.  That did make me feel better.  He always knows what to say.  Perhaps I am celebrating too early.  There is another week left and Aspen Ski and Board is having a summer clearance this weekend.  That just spells trouble.  Crossing my fingers that we'll be good this weekend or else we find some killer deals we just can't say no to.
