Shut the Front Door

More awesomeness from other blogs.  This one brought to you by Tom and Lorenzo.  They originally started writing commentary about Project Runway, but have expanded to other TV shows (The Fashion Show, Lost, The Killing, Walking Dead, Mad Men) and fashion.  One of today's posts was on Christian Louboutin's Fall collection.

The majority of the shoes were amazing and I would love to have a pair, and of course, there were the requisite "high fashion" types that you would see Lady Gaga or Rihanna wearing.  Anyway, one of the last pairs were these beauties:

First response was WTF, but then they kind of grow on you.  I think it's because they look like dog or cat paws and I love dogs!  They are crazy and I would never wear them, but I love the idea of them.  It makes me smile, perhaps one of those crazy lady smiles.

Soft

I'm going to Vegas in a few weeks with the intention of only doing the following: gambling, eating, sleeping, drinking, and laying out at the pool.  Except for the last one, I'm completely prepared for those activities.  As for laying out, I've gotten soft.  I've lost the definition in my abdomen.  I blame it all on lacrosse season.  I've been so busy every night that I haven't been to the gym in who knows how long.  I miss just running and lifting weights.  I never thought I would say that.

I think I've done a good job maintaining my weight with my horrible mid-season eating habits, but I want to get my definition back before I leave.  I think that means doing crunches and ab exercises when I get home from reffing.  I don't really believe that will help because we all know it's a combination of cardio and weights and you can't spot reduce.  I'm still going to try.  I can't stop officiating because that supplements the first activity in my list.

*Face palm*

Sigh, I just want to choke the hubster sometimes.  His inattention to detail is driving me nuts.  On Wednesday night, he tells me we are out of milk.  We rarely ever run out of milk because the hubster loves cereal.  So I was a little upset because there would be no milk for my morning coffee.  Anyway, after dinner last night, I tell Brock there's still no milk to go with a piece of cake I wanted to eat and for my morning coffee.  He says I thought you were going to get it.  I reply "You want me to go get milk when I work all day and ref all night and don't get home until 9 pm most nights while you did almost nothing today (He did get his passenger side window replaced)."

He promised to get milk last night which he did, BUT he didn't scan his Kroger card and ended up paying $4 for a gallon of milk when it should have cost $2.50.  !@#@!#@  Ok, maybe an overreaction on my part, but come on!  If you didn't bring the card in, then go out to the fucking car and get it.  He went to the store after midnight.  I'm pretty sure there was no line.  I woke him up this morning to yell at him about it since he left the receipt right by the coffee machine.  He fed me some BS story that the cashier scanned in another one for him which she could have, but that still doesn't excuse that he wasn't watching the register as things were being rung up.  I mean he bought 2 half gallons of milk, bananas and parsley.  It doesn't take a lot of mental acuity to add those items up.

It's such a little thing, but I'm still mad about it.

I miss Jomer

Jomer was my very first dog.  A big beautiful Basset Hound.  He was a stinky little sucker, but I loved him.  He passed away a month after I moved out to Ohio.  I don't think I've ever cried so much in my life.  Shortly after Jomer passed, I got Egg Roll and I fell in love all over again.  I renewed my love for Bassets while reading Pioneer Woman.  She posts pictures of her Basset Charlie and her most recent addition, Walter.  It really makes me wish I had a house with an enclosed yard so I could have 10 dogs.  She recently made a post about 50 Bassets Running and I had click the link.  Here is one of the pictures that most reminds me of Jomer.

Of course, I don't think Jomer ever ran in his lifetime.  I do feel I wasn't the best parent for Jomer and that my mom did the majority of work.  My whole family misses him.  I think he was the first pet that was treated as part of the family.  I have many fond memories of Jomer and wish that Egg Roll and Red could have their older brother.

Dog picture of the day

Look how happy she is! I have no idea why, but she's too cute.

NKOTBSB?!?! WTF!!

That's New Kids on the Block/Backstreet Boys for all you younguns who don't read my blog.  I just caught their performance on Dancing with the Stars.  No I don't watch it.  It was on that channel when I turned on my TV.  Anyway, my pre-teen and teenage self loved those boy bands respectively.  Who could forget Jordan Knight?  I even remember his favorite color is baby blue.  I had his poster on my wall and bought all sorts of NKOTB crap.  I loved the Backstreet Boys too.  I bought the CD singles and played them on repeat a bazillion times.  I remember going to National Tournament in Columbus when I was a junior in high school and we'd blast "I want it that way" in the terminal (note: also on repeat).  Ahhh, a lost youth.  You would think putting two popular boy bands together would be a winning/money making combination.

You'd be dead wrong.  The song wasn't that bad, but they sounded terrible.  And let me tell you, time has not been kind to either group.  There are just too many people on that stage and with like 9 of them doing choreographed dancing, it was a joke.  The younger version of myself just died a little tonight.  Oh well, those days are just not meant to be revisited.  Perhaps in another 20 years when those awesome hits are considered golden oldies...

Really?

I follow a few blogs.  Mostly are personal blogs about weddings, kids, and life in general.  A few are fashion and TV related.  One of the fashion ones is The Sartorialist.  Most of the time, it has very chic, fashionable men and women gracing the front page, and I can see the fashioni-ness of it, but this just boggles my mind.

Really?  Did Kriss Cross make a comeback?  Are they storming the fashion world again?  Come on.

Blast from the Past

I'm sitting here at work taking a break from looking at this product specification, and I decide to get a quick update on Facebook on my phone.  I noticed that there is this "new" feature on the phone app that says "People you may know" (It's been a regular feature on the website, but it seems new to me on the app).  Anyway, out of curiosity, I click on it.  It shows some of my brother's friends, some friends of lacrosse friends I've made in Columbus, but the majority of these people I supposedly know are people I knew in high school.  I haven't been really good about keeping in touch with high school friends.  Like really keeping in touch, I don't count just being Facebook friends keeping in touch.  So it got me wondering if I should friend them.  Would they remember me? Would they even want to be my "friend" after over 10 years?  I'm sure this is just all in my head and of course, they would friend me, but I fear rejection.

The one friend that surprised me was my first boyfriend.  It was one of those doomed high school relationships like most are.  I think we both knew from the beginning, but we were kids and the future wasn't that important (and by future, I meant marriage and stuff, not college and careers because we all know Asians only care about those things and not silly things like love and marriage and relationships).  What doomed us was that he was Mormon and I was not.  I do look fondly back on my first relationship, not just of boyfriend/girlfriend, but of true friendship.  Fondly enough to want to friend him?  I think THAT would be weird.  I'm just curious to see how his life turned out.  I know he got married which he did call me about (that was sweet).  And the bitch that I was (and probably still am) scoffed/disapproved/questioned at his choice of engagement ring.  We had already moved on by that time in life.  His profile picture has him holding a kid, so I'm assuming it is his (He is Mormon after all).  Now I sound like a stalker.

Ready, Set, Gamble!

Vegas flight is booked!  Woohoo!!!

And I'll tell you.  It wasn't easy.  First, I thought I'd use my free awards ticket from Southwest.  That was quickly dashed when there were no awards flights available.  I was heartbroken.  I even stopped eating dinner to pout a little.  To actually buy the flights would cost me $560!!  Fuck that.  My heart sunk a little more.  How could I let my friend down?  We'd been talking about for a week (ok, a week is not a long time, but every time we email or chat or see each other during a business trip, we always talk about going to Vegas again, so it's been in the making since my bachelorette party).  Anyway, I looked at expedia and all the other sites.  Prices were still too high.  I finally remembered that I had a credit with Delta from a cancelled flight last year.  I hopped over to Delta.com and found a decently priced flight with ok flight times.  I called up Delta and booked my ticket.  It was a win win for me.  I got to use a credit that I thought was going to go to waste and I bought a ticket at an acceptable price.

So in 25 days I'll be in VEGAS!

Vegas Bound!!

Just got word from a close college friend of mine that we're having a girls weekend in Vegas in mid-May.  So excited and exactly what I need.  Good thing I got those college games and the big checks that come with them. I knew I accepted all those games for a reason.  I'm a little sad that the hubster is going to be left behind, but he did express some interest in racing that weekend.  So he won't miss me that much.

Long Weekends

I had a very weird week and my internal schedule is all out of whack.  To start out, I didn't have to work on Wednesday due to a storm on Tuesday night that took out the power at work on Wednesday as well as causing server problems.  I also had Good Friday off.  So I had a three day work week essentially and I didn't have that many games.  All day yesterday I thought it was Sunday.  I just couldn't shake the feeling.  I think part of the internal clock problems was that I didn't really do anything those days I had off.  I NEED to do something or else I feel like I completely wasted a day.  Even if I really needed a day of nothing to relax.

Well, I don't really like that and I'm glad I got a lot done today.  I feel so much more relaxed and un-stressed when I do stuff.  For example, today I:

  • cleaned the kitchen floors
  • did 4 loads of laundry
  • changed the sheets on my bed
  • sorted through 3 shopping bags full of mail (about 2.5 years worth of misc bills and stuff)
  • re-organized my kitchen
  • made dinner
  • made white chicken chili for later on in the week
  • went grocery shopping
  • cleaned the house (dusted, sorted, put stuff away)
  • started to write my rating letter
  • organized my office closet
  • organized the desk in the bedroom
I don't feel tired.  I feel great.  The best I've felt all weekend.  I wonder if there is anything wrong with me.

"I got it"

Three simple words, but apparently put together makes a very hard sentence to understand.  I was at Meijer today to buy some organizational things (over the door hook, file cabinet, letter organizer, etc) and was lifting my file cabinet out of the cart onto the self scanner when some guy comes up and tries to give me a hand.  I politely say "I got it.:  It seems that he got the message and stopped trying to help me.  The thing didn't even weight a lot it was just big.  Anyway, once on the scanner machine, I can't find the damn upc bar so I'm twisting it around and pretty much scanning every side of the box.  Yes, not the most efficient way to scan something, but I was running out of patience.  Anyway, guy comes up again and tries to give me a hand.  I glare at him, but let him help.  It finally scans and I put it back in the cart.

Why did he try to help me again?  Was I going through the self scan too slowly?  Potentially, but Meijer's register people are probably slower.  So tough noogies, impatient dude.  You'll just have to wait for me to finish. Just leave me alone, don't talk to me, don't even look at me.  I got it!

The Magic of TV

What about a show or movie on TV make it so compelling to watch?  I don't know, but I'm sitting here in bed watching an episode of Sex and the City.  I own all 6 seasons of Sex and City.  The hubster's mom gave them to me for Christmas one year.  Aside from the initial viewing, I've never watched these DVDs again, but whenever Sex and City is on TV, I always watch it.  Why do I suffer through terrible Style network commercials?  I don't know, but I don't think the genre of the movies or shows have anything to do with it either.  We own Firefly on DVD and they started airing the episodes on TV now.  I always try to click on the show on the TV guide, but we don't get that channel, but I'm always disappointed when I can't watch it.  Nothing is really stopping me from watching it on DVD either, but I never do.

It's weird.  Maybe the commercials are subliminally compelling us to watch them.

*Sigh*

I got my dress in the mail yesterday and it was a much needed pick me up with the day I was having at work.  I came home to try it on.  It was very cute.  The extra small fit perfectly.  I loved how it looked.  The stain that the sales associate told me about was very small and faint, so I had no problem with washing it out; however, while trying it on I noticed a small hole by the top of the slit.  It could see how you could miss it, but it was big enough for me to be concerned.  I'm not entirely surprised to see a hole because the tags even have a warning to be careful when removing the dress if you have jewelry on. It's a very delicate fabric.  I loved the dress, but paying $134 for something with a stain and a hole was just a bit much for me.

I reasoned out that if they would give me another discount, I could live with the hole.  I took it in this morning and was told they could not offer me another discount because the original 20% I got was for the stain AND the hole.  I wasn't buying it because they only told me about the stain over the phone.  So I returned it.  I'll wait for it to come back in stock or I'll just have to miss this one.  I'm ok with that.

Rain day or Hurricane-like wind day or Tornado day?

We've all heard of snow days.  I remember as a kid waking up and listening to KYW News Radio 1060 hoping to hear my school code for the day off.  You'd have to listen hard to hear your numbers as the newcaster spewed them out like an auctioneer.  Nowadays in Columbus, they actually say the name of the school and with interwebs, you can just look at the school's website.

Anyway, yesterday, I had a rare weather related day off from work.  Tuesday night we had a pretty big storm come through our area just like most of the Midwest is experiencing.  It didn't seem so bad where I lived, but I guess Heath got hit harder than I thought.  Because on my way to work yesterday morning, I received a call from my engineering manager that the facility we worked in had no power and that the servers were down and that I didn't have to come in to work.  SWEET!  I'm just glad that I was only 10 minutes into my commute as opposed to 30 minutes.  I got off the freeway and headed home where I promptly got into bed and alternated from sleeping and watching TV until 11 am which is when I got hungry.

I poked the hubster awake where we preceded to spend an hour trying to figure out where we wanted to eat.  I know, we're so efficient and deciding where to eat is a big deal.  We settled on El Vaquero and surprisingly, we both got something we actually liked.  We've been trying different entrées at this place for the last 2-3 visits.  We got home from lunch and I continued to watch TV and take a nap.  I know, what a productive day!  I did end up doing a lacrosse game last night and feasted on some chicken taquitos from Costco for dinner.  A very Mexican day for me.

I also found out that we get Good Friday off from work, so what started out as a busy week for me turned out to be pretty relaxing.

Oops!

I was on the phone with my friend Melissa discussing local lacrosse politics and I got a call during our conversation and let it go to voice mail.  It was Anthropologie calling me to let me know they found a dress I wanted in my size.  I immediately called back and it's now on its way to me.  Here's the dress:

It looks much better on than it does in this pictures.  I've been wanting to try this maxi dress trend and this one just looks so easy and chic.  I love the material too.  The sales associate told me there was some make up on the dress at the neckline and gave me 20% off.  If I don't think it's washable, I'll return it.

You may be wondering why this post is titled "Oops!"  Well, here's why.  I shouldn't have bought it.  At this point in the season, I was only supposed to get one reward which if you follow this blog, I already got my new coffee machine.  I must admit the reason I bought the Keurig was because I asked for this dress over a week ago and the sales associate said I would hear from them in the next day or two.  So I just assumed that they were just out of stock online and in stores.  Oh well.  There's still the chance I might not love the dress since I tried on the small in stores and it was way too big.  Maybe the extra small might still be too big or I'll have a change in heart about how it looks.

Insurance

I've complained before to my friends and to the hubster about how so many young adults leave college with absolutely no idea how the real world functions financially.  I left with some basics like pay your bills/credit cards on time or you'll pay interest, but that was about it.  No one talks about insurance (car, home, medical, life, etc) or retirement or loans. You walk into work/bank and sign up for it, but it's tough to figure it out.  I guess one could say it's your own fault that you didn't research it and that it's no one's responsibility to inform you of these things.

Anyway, this post in particular is about home and car insurance.  I'll admit I made a HUGE mistake when I switched from Progressive to Geico for our insurance coverage.  I did not insure the hubster's car with comprehensive insurance.  That would have paid for repairing his broken window when his car got broken into last week.  Oh, well.  Lesson learned there.  I did get that fixed yesterday.

The second lesson has to do with our home insurance.  Since we live in a condo, the condo association covers the insurance for the actual structure while we have insurance for our personal possessions.  Good thing this covers items inside our cars.  So the hubster filed a claim with our insurance company and I was so surprised to see how things add up so quickly.  Anyway, when we first signed up for home insurance I made a wild ass guess about how much our stuff was worth.  Take into consideration we just moved in and we didn't really have a lot of stuff.  After 4 years, we've accumulated a lot of stuff and stuff is not cheap.  After getting the wake up call that in the hubster's car alone there was a significant expense to replace it all, we decided we should up our coverage in the event we do get wiped out by a tornado or fire or something.  We ended up almost doubling our coverage and I'm not sure if that even covers everything.

Perhaps it's time to start taking pictures of our rooms as records in case something does happen.

April Showers...

This weather is getting a little old and is getting very depressing.  I really shouldn't be feeling like this because I should just be glad it's not freezing and/or snowing.  I'm just tired of all of this rain.  It seems like it rained or was predicted to rain a lot last week and I think it did.  This week was looking a bit more promising with a break from the rain until Wednesday, but as the weekend progressed, the rain was moving up in the week.  Last I checked, it was supposed to be 70 and no rain on Tuesday, now it's rain/thunder/lightning THROUGH Wednesday and probably later into the week.  Of course, with the rain, the temperature is going to go down too.  It's almost the end of April.  Why can't it be warm again?!?!

I guess the bright side is maybe some of my games will be cancelled.  I'm definitely still in the "I hate lacrosse" mood.  I've got a big game Tuesday so we'll see if it happens or not.

Yummy Dinner

We went to Costco today to pick up some more bottled water and some other things they had coupons for this month.  We don't usually buy any of the pre-made food items, but I spotted a lime cilantro marinated flank steak in the refrigerated area and decided to give it a try.  I figured it would be perfect for the grill and since today was a somewhat nice day although windy, it was good enough to grill.

I made the flank steak and more veggie kabobs (squash, mushroom, tomato, and onion) on the grill and had a side of white rice (of course).  It was quite good.  They even put some extra marinade for the cooked steak which I saved if I wanted to marinate something else with it.  It didn't touch the raw beef, so I think it's ok to save.  There was enough left over for two lunches - steak, rice, and veggies, and some for the hubster too.

I'm loving this grill and actually picked up these two items at Kohl's using a free shipping and 30% off code:

Gas Grill Stand
Propane adapter

Dog picture of the day

New Toy

Saw this at Costco today and had to buy it. I'll consider it a mid season gift to myself. I think my lacrosse earnings will more than cover it.

Just made my first cup and I love this machine.

Laundry

I usually don't mind doing laundry.  In fact, it's one of my least hated chores.  It's quite easy and you can break it up into segments.  I do hate doing excessive laundry.  I did a load of laundry late last night because I didn't have a chance to on Friday since I had a game that night and I didn't get home until 8:30 last night.  Anyway, I'm sorting through the clothes in the dryer this morning because the step son is leaving us a little earlier than normal because the hubster has an MRI at noon.  I'm pulling out the clothes and here's the inventory on what he wore this WEEKEND:

  • two pairs of athletic shorts
  • three t shirts
  • one pair of jeans
  • 3 pairs of underwear
  • 2 pairs of socks
This does not include the outfit he wore here in Friday.  Why does one kid need to wear so much clothes in essentially 1.5 days?  Apparently, he changes his underwear every time he changes clothes.  This means he changes underwear when he showers and then once again the very next morning when he changes out of his pajamas. !@#!#@!?  It's no fucking wonder that the hubster called me last night and asked where the step son's underwear went.  He's worn it all!

Double You Tee Eff

Tell me how the fuck a 10 year old kid can drain an entire hot water heater tank?!?!?!

I come home from a terrible day of reffing.  Six games (2 rating and 4 officiating) in rain, hail, windy conditions - terrible weather conditions.  I call the hubster before I come home.  My commute is 20 minutes.  Hubster informs me that step child is in the shower.  IN the shower.  Meaning he was already some time in the shower.  He is still in the shower when I get home.  That's fucking 20+ minutes in the shower.  I start my shower.  No fucking hot water.  I smell, I've been cold all day.  All I want is a hot shower and to vege in front of my TV.  I am denied by my 10 year old step son. I want to rip the hubster's face off right now.

CSA

I'm contemplating joining a CSA.  A CSA is Community Supported Agriculture.  I thought about it last year, but was too late to join.  This is the perfect time to do it, but I'm still waffling.  I love the idea of eating fresh, local fruits and vegetables, but I'm afraid I won't be able to eat and/or cook everything provided to me.  The hubster won't eat any vegetables.  I also don't know if I'll have the time to cook everything or how to cook it.

Here are two that I'm considering:

$325 for a half share

$250 for a large share, $150 for a small share

Rock Dove only does vegetables and is a little pricier.  Spring Haven has fruits and vegetables and is much cheaper.  You'd think the choice would be obvious.  I think what's keeping me from pulling the trigger is their websites aren't that good.  I use technology as a discriminator.  I mean if you can't make a functional website that has all pertinent information easily available, then I don't really trust it.  But then again, these are farmers, but farmers can be tech savvy.  I've seen some other CSAs that have nice websites with Facebook and Twitter, but those also cost $900 for a share.

I did just get my preloaded Visas from participating in my works health benefit program and I've spent more money on less useful things before in a heart beat.  Why can't I commit to picking up vegetables every week?  Since CSAs are getting more and more popular, the number of pick up locations are increasing and these both offer pick up at Easton which is super convenient for me.

I'll have to discuss this with the hubster, but I don't think he'll object.  He's all about me being healthy.  I just don't want to go into this all excited and by the 20th week I'm throwing away vegetables.

Carpet Cleaning

We really need to get our carpet cleaned in the bedroom.  It's getting pretty gross.  I've tried all sorts of carpet cleaners, but nothing seems to keep it clean or keep the smells away.  I think I'm going to try a white vinegar mixture next and if that fails, I'll have to hire someone to come clean the carpets.  Might as well do the whole downstairs.  My only concern is I have this huge honking king sized bed frame.  I don't want to take it apart.  Will they clean around it or move it for us?  I think if we take the mattress and supports out, then they could work around the frame.  It's really big and I even hate to think about when/if we move how to get that monster out of the room.  I'm sure I'm exaggerating since when the furniture store people put it together it didn't take them that long.

Burnt by Daily Deals

I think it's safe to say that sites like Groupon and Living Social have become quite popular.  When I first signed up, I was always wanted to buy the spa treatment type groupons because I love getting my nails done, but can't really justify the expense even with a deep discount.  I confess I did give in once, but that's because I always get groomed and pampered before I see my family.  Anyway, I try very hard to think through each groupon like purchase.  Do I really need that 50% off massage or will I need a $20 gift certificate to a restaurant I've never tried?

I've been pretty successful at using all my Groupon and Living Social Deals.  Deals I've capitalized on thus far: eBay gift card, Nordstrom rack gift card, and Fujiyama gift card.  So all and all not that many until today.

I bought a Living Social deal for 6 pole dancing classes.  I thought it would be fun.  It seems to be very trendy and I have no upper body strength!  Anyway, it expires in May and with lacrosse season in full swing, it was a chore to set up a class.  The website was never updated.  They only checked their email once a day which is the only way to register.  I finally got into a class and ended up changing it to do a lacrosse game.  I just received an email that the new class was cancelled leaving me with no available classes to go to before it expires.  There goes my money.  I should have known not to buy it since it's a small studio in Columbus, but it was late and the hubster was urging me on.  I'll write that off as a lesson learned.

So Frustrating

The hubster's car was broken into sometime Monday night.  They broke the newly fixed passenger side window and took a screwdriver to the locking mechanism on the passenger side door.  They took almost everything of value from his car including his backpack which is what I'm most upset about.  It had all his notes and study guides for school.  Everything else is replaceable, but I don't know what he's going to do about those.  The friends he has in the class aren't as diligent as he is in attending, so he can't copy notes.  He told me not to worry about it, but I can't help it.

I'm so mad because we think we know who did it, but have no way of proving it.  We think it was these two kids we saw walking around our complex over the weekend.  Our condo community borders two apartment complexes.  They usually don't venture into the condo are, but on Saturday when I was outside grilling, I saw these two kids walking around a couple of times.  They looked like they were up to no good and definitely did not live in one of the condos.  There are very few families who live in our community, mostly retired folks.

The hubster called the insurance companies and he's dealing with all the paperwork today.  Ugh, this just sucks.

Cupcakes

I could really use a cupcake right now.  I recently bought 5 boxes of Funfetti cake mix because it was on sale for $1 a box.  I also bought 3 cans of frosting.  I figure it expires in October and that's plenty of time to eat 5 boxes of cupcakes.  The secret is that my cupcake consumption is much slower than the hubster's.  It's almost a 1:4 ratio.  So in one batch (18 cupcakes even though the box says 24) I'll eat 4 or 5 of them, and the hubster finishes off the rest.

Anyway, on my day off, I was ready to bake some cupcakes.  I got all the ingredients out and realized that I was out of cupcake liners!  I was sad.  Now that I am really craving a cupcake, I'm super sad.  I guess I don't really need a cupcake, but I very much want one right now.  Funfetti cupcake with whipped vanilla frosting, yum...

Relaxed and Rested and unable to breath...

I took the day off yesterday.  It was a much needed break.  After 7 straight days of lacrosse including a killer 4 game day on Sunday, I needed a break.  I wouldn't have been able to function.  I slept in and then the hubster and I went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch.  After lunch, we went shopping where I used my free pantie coupon from Victoria's Secret and a $10 coupon to get a new bra.  Right before we left, the hubster wanted to go to Hollister.  I don't normally shop there, but the hubster thinks they have cute clothes for me.  I relented since he didn't complain when we went to Anthropologie (he hates this store).  One of the reasons I don't usually shop there is because I don't think it's very age appropriate for me now that I'm 28.  The hubster thinks I'm just being dramatic and a grandmom.  Another reason is I once saw them spraying their disgusting perfume on their clothes after hours.  No wonder it reeks in there.

Walking in to the store yesterday, the perfume wasn't so strong, but now that I'm wearing a cardigan and tank top that the hubster bought me, I can smell it every time I move.  Yes, I should have washed them before wearing, but I was in a rush this morning and just threw on some clothes.  I don't usually wash new clothes before I wear them.  Should I?  I think it's because I don't think about other people trying them on that I don't get grossed out by it.  Maybe something to consider in the future.

Best drink ever

We went to Cheesecake Factory for lunch today and I tried one of these: J.W. Pink Lemonade. It is sooo good and very refreshing. It's inspired me to try to make my own this summer. It will be great for all the grilling we'll be doing.

Ouch

I had 4 college club games at Miami University today.  I will never again do four games.  It was the first hot day of the year and it was hot and humid!  I knew it was going to be hot, and I remembered my kilt, water, food, and tank top, but it didn't occur to bring sunscreen.  My arms and legs are BURNT!  Here is my new best friend:

I just want a McDonald's ice cream sundae right now, and the hubster said he'd get me one when I got home, but I think that was fluff.  I guess I'll just have to settle with an ice cold bottle of water.

Grilling!

Finally a nice day and we finally get to use our grill. On the menu tonight is bacon cheeseburgers, turkey burgers, salad, chips, and veggie kabobs. Yum!

Dog picture of the day

Did I say dogs? I meant cows since my dogs are grazing in this picture.

New Stuff

So someone (a fuzzy someone who shall remain un-named) decided that she wanted a little snack (you'd think it would be the fat one), but this snack was of a plastic nature.  Anyway, the culprit sneaked into my ref bag and chewed up my finger whistle!  Right before my college game.  I found out this season that we refs have a system.  Things need to be just so or else we get all screwed up and can't call a decent game.  I buy almost all of my reffing stuff online, so I was in a pickle.  Where would I get a finger whistle in Columbus in two days?!?!

Well, there just happened to be a store in Columbus on the other side of town which has the BEST hours (note dripping sarcasm there).  They are open on weekdays from 10 am to 4:30 pm.  Four-fricking-thirty?!?!  Better than banker's hours.  So I leave work a little early to head over there before my game and pick up two whistles for $17.00!  I've learned my lesson: have a back up.

Since I left work earlier than anticipated to get there before the store closed, I had about 30 minutes to kill.  So what do I do?  I go to Dick's.  I always need sporting goods stuff.  Anyway, I had a Sports Authority coupon that was expiring soon and I know that some of their locations take competitor's coupons and the shirt I wanted is not carried by Sports authority, so I decided to give it a try.  I get to Dick's, grab my shirt, wander around a bit, and head to the register.  I ask about the coupon and they took it.  I got my shirt for $10.  By the way, it's a black Nike shirt for wearing under my stripes.  I definitely needed another one because I've been reffing almost every day and I don't have time to do laundry every few days and the shirt I had been wearing and re-wearing was getting too smelly.  I know I'm gross.

So new whistles and a new shirt for me!

Bad Dog

I really think Red has some issues.  She's got her problem with her nose and her anxiety.  Now she won't even go into her crate after I walk her in the morning.  She runs straight back into the bedroom and hides under the bed.  This has just recently started, probably about the same time she stopped wanting to eat with a cage door closed.

This morning was definitely a chore to get her into her crate.  She would not get out from under the bed and she would start to growl at me!  This is completely unacceptable to me, but the hubster is a coddler and an enabler, so he told me to leave her alone.  I may be the worst dog owner, but I said "F@#$# that".  She's a dog and she should behave and there is no reason to start acting like a spoiled child.  She needs to get into her crate like she always did and not change the routine to her whims.  You wouldn't do that with a child would you.  I was so angry and upset.  It didn't help that I had decided to sleep an extra 30 minutes this morning and did not feel like going into work.

I tried bribing her with treats and going outside (which worked for about 30 seconds and when she realized it was a trick, she quickly darted back under the bad).  She probably heard something false or threatening in my voice.  Is it bad to think that you hope that one day she would just run away and never come back?  Yes, it is, but I'm human and that's how I felt today.

I feel a tickle...

in my throat.  Which means I am getting sick.  It's the hubster's fault.  He probably got it when he was standing out in the cold last Saturday morning for his silly racing event.  He's been feeling terrible since Monday and I felt this tickle last night.  I'm going to be so mad if I get sick.

Danishes and more

My diet has gone to shit lately.  With all the lacrosse games I'm doing, I'm lucky to get home by 10 pm.  I leave straight from work and I have to eat snacks throughout the day to make sure I'm not hungry in the middle of the game.  And then once the game is over, I find myself stopping to get fast food and totally pigging out because I haven't had any real food since 11 am.

Anyway, this weekend was not good to my scale.  I ate way too much for the hubster's belated birthday dinner at Top and had too much to drink.  After that, I had margarita's and mexican food with my reffing buddies.  Same thing, was starving and overate.

To start things off this week, we had an all hands meeting this morning where they had some breakfast foods to snack on.  So I had half a blueberry muffin and a cheese danish in addition to the banana and the protein bar I ate for breakfast.  To make things worse, I now have this on my desk:

Yes, another cheese danish and an APPLE one too.  My games tonight were cancelled tonight too, so if I eat these, it'll be like double calories because I won't burn any tonight.  Hmmm, perhaps it's finally time to hit the gym that I haven't been to in a month.  Things have got to get better.

=(

I lost my water bottle this weekend.  It makes me sad.  I was at OSU for the Big Ten club playday and I left it there.  I've had this since 2004 which is a long time!  I got it my last year at UCSD for some award that I can't remember for lacrosse.  It used to have some photobooth pictures of me, Lynn, and Daphne, but I removed it because the tape holding it was peeling.  I hadn't seen this color combination in Nalgene bottles and I think that's what makes me most sad.  I hope whoever picked you up is going to give you a good home

I've had to replace it with the Nalgene I bought the hubster a while ago.  It hadn't been used in a while since the hubster likes to drink out of plastic water bottles.  It's not nearly as pretty as mine, but it'll do.  I do have another one which is even older than my green one, but it's magenta with a red cap.

Do you know what love is?

Love is not killing your husband when...

  • he wakes you up at 2:00 am to ask you to borrow your car to race in some silly autocross event because he's missing an adapter for his car, knowing full well it's supposed to rain tomorrow and you'll be driving a car with non functioning windshield wipers.
  • he asks you to pick up a package at USPS, you remind him to fill out the slip, but he fills it out incorrectly.
  • he doesn't Rainex the window so that you can see while driving in the rain in a car with non functioning windshield wipers.
  • he has to get up early at 6am and he asks you do walk the dogs when he gets up even though it's your day to sleep in
