I'm contemplating joining a CSA. A CSA is Community Supported Agriculture. I thought about it last year, but was too late to join. This is the perfect time to do it, but I'm still waffling. I love the idea of eating fresh, local fruits and vegetables, but I'm afraid I won't be able to eat and/or cook everything provided to me. The hubster won't eat any vegetables. I also don't know if I'll have the time to cook everything or how to cook it.
Here are two that I'm considering:
$250 for a large share, $150 for a small share
Rock Dove only does vegetables and is a little pricier. Spring Haven has fruits and vegetables and is much cheaper. You'd think the choice would be obvious. I think what's keeping me from pulling the trigger is their websites aren't that good. I use technology as a discriminator. I mean if you can't make a functional website that has all pertinent information easily available, then I don't really trust it. But then again, these are farmers, but farmers can be tech savvy. I've seen some other CSAs that have nice websites with Facebook and Twitter, but those also cost $900 for a share.
I did just get my preloaded Visas from participating in my works health benefit program and I've spent more money on less useful things before in a heart beat. Why can't I commit to picking up vegetables every week? Since CSAs are getting more and more popular, the number of pick up locations are increasing and these both offer pick up at Easton which is super convenient for me.
I'll have to discuss this with the hubster, but I don't think he'll object. He's all about me being healthy. I just don't want to go into this all excited and by the 20th week I'm throwing away vegetables.
